STEM at Cor Jesu Academy

This month, our very own Marc Eshelman, PE participated as a presenter at a week long STEM centered "Summer Engineering Experience" (S. E. E.) at Cor Jesu Academy. Cor Jesu’s new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Corporate Partners Initiative, which was launched last spring, is forging an innovative and exciting new path that directly exposes our students to the myriad opportunities for women in engineering and helps them overcome the obstacles posed by the gender divide in this male-dominated field. In addition to Cor Jesu’s Intro to Engineering course that has been offered since 2001, this new initiative provides a unique combination of introductory engineering courses, scholarships, job shadowing and a summer engineering discovery program. Marc's role included instructing the participants on how Green Infrastructure, such as bioretention facilities, can help reduce stormwater runoff and improve water quality. He used a scale model to demonstrate how stormwater passes through the various components. Watch the video here!
